In Honor of Mothers

May 3, 2023

Last month, I released an article sharing the challenges I overcame as a working mom. Because it is Mother’s Day month, I want to focus on the value a mom brings — regardless of her role in the workforce.

Motherhood is often misunderstood in our society. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or work outside the home, many conversations about motherhood focus on sacrifice. I think we should focus more on the many gifts motherhood provides.

As a mom, you have the power to shape the next generation and make a lasting impact on the world. Your love, guidance and support can inspire your children to become kind, empathetic and successful individuals who will go on to make a positive impact on society.

Regardless of your taxable employment status, moms balance the demands of labor and love. In doing so, you teach your children the importance of responsibility, time management and work-life balance. You demonstrate how to show up in the world, how to achieve goals and how to take care of yourself — even when the going gets tough.

Moms, you are a role model. You show your children the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance. You show them the importance of love, care and connection. You’re amazing, even when you aren’t quite sure that you are.

To all the moms out there doing their best, needing that glimmer of recognition, wanting 5 quick minutes of peace and quiet: I see you. I am you. And I’m in awe of all of us.

And to my brilliant, fascinating, goofy kids, I am so thankful for the gift you gave me by making me a mother.
